Job Title: Intake & Rescue Manager
Classification: Full time, Exempt
Job Relationship: Reports to Shelter Operations Director
Position Summary: Responsible for coordinating the intake of animals into the shelter through various avenues, builds and maintains relationships with other shelters & rescues, and acts a liaison to refer pet owners and community members to resources to meet their individual needs whether through outside resources, programs within Rescue Village, and/or animal admission.
Coordinates the intake of animals into Rescue Village
Works with Shelter Operations Director to determine weekly animal intake numbers based on kennel/cage census, foster home availability, animal variety, and clinic schedule (capacity for care)
Works with partner shelters, local rescues, and national animal welfare agencies to schedule and coordinate transports of animals into Rescue Village regularly
Works with the public to manage and schedule in friendly stray cats and kittens when necessary
Works closely with the dog, cat, and barn department heads to coordinate animals needing to be surrendered by their owners
Works with Humane Society Agent to take in animals through the humane department when needed
Responds promptly to public phone calls and emails regarding intake, especially in regards to time-sensitive cases
Builds and maintains relationships with other animal welfare organizations
Communicates regularly with local animal shelters to determine how RV can best help them at any given time, whether that be taking in animals from their agency or providing them with needed resources
Stays "on the pulse" of what is happening in the local rescue community to continue to build our relationships with smaller rescue groups, while maintaining an appropriate capacity for care in the shelter
Manages safety net services
Counsels members of the public on topics such as low-cost spay/neuter, animal behavior, basic veterinary care, and general pet care, and provides them with information about either RV services or outside services to meet their needs
Determines eligibility of owned animals into our Community Guardian safety net foster program, and works with Human-Animal Services Manager to ensure placement.
Educates the public about community cats and refers them to our TNR (Trap/Neuter/Return)
Program when intake is not the appropriate option for such cats
Becomes familiar with community resources such as food banks, housing assistance, medical services in order to build the reach of our safety net programs
Manages and maintains the RV Pet Food Pantry and tracks program data
Works as back up to the Humane Society Agent
When needed, works as the secondary Humane Society Agent to respond to calls of neglect/cruelty in Geauga County

High school diploma required
At least one (1) year of experience in the field of animal welfare is preferred
Able to read and understand written instructions
Able to work with animals, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies
Able to perform very physical work: scrubbing, mopping, bending, lifting, walking, and standing for up to 10 hours a day, lifting up to 50 pounds with assistance
Must possess a valid Ohio Driver's License, reliable transportation, and insurable driving record.

Working Conditions Work is performed constantly in an animal shelter that operates seven days per week with exposure to animals, including some with questionable health and temperament concerns, high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, harsh weather conditions, and cleaning agents. The person in this position needs to constantly move about the shelter and occasionally provide care to our shelter animals. Frequently operates a computer and other office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, and printer). Frequently positions self to handle animals of all sizes in a variety of areas and positions (low cages, high cages, on tables, on the floor, in vehicles, etc.). Occasionally positions self to help perform shelter and animal cleaning functions. Must be able to detect and recognize potentially dangerous animal behavior. Occasionally moves animals weighing up to 50 pounds (i.e. through the shelter on a leash or using other safe restraint and animal handling equipment, into and out of cages in the shelter). Occasionally walks dogs outside in all types of weather. Must be able to modify work schedule to meet Rescue Village’s operational needs.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
