We're looking for an enthusiastic Human Services Specialist II for our Richland County office who work with Child Protective Services Assessment, Family Preservation, and Foster Care to plan and execute case work activities to facilitate safety, permanence and well-being of children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect. Perform specialized family preservation and case management in areas of child welfare services including but not limited to the areas of family preservation, assessment, foster care and intake services for children and families. The Human Services Specialist II will assess risk and manage safety threats to children to work toward positive permanency and well-being outcomes. Gather and assess information; monitor behavior change; conduct interviews; engage children and families in development of safety plans; access services; and ensure needed services are linked to care providers. Thoroughly and accurately document all information (CFASP, collaterals, progress notes etc.), decisions, and actions taken in CAPSS and compile in case file. Conduct formal and informal assessments and utilize critical thinking skills to determine whether there are safety threats and/or the level of risk and whether the report constitutes child abuse or neglect under South Carolina Law. Identify child and family needs and refer families to appropriate services and resources. Prepare court documents; collaborate with Guardians as litem, law enforcement and service providers; testify in court; and make required home visits, face to face contact with children, families and providers. Participate in supervision and legal consults. Maintains client and family rights to confidentiality in compliance with State and Federal laws. Adopts, implements and promotes agency values and philosophy in the course of employment with the agency. Maintain CPS certification. Attend APS certification training. Attend all recommended supervisory, leadership trainings and meetings. Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter services. All South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) Employees are expected to Adopt, Implement, and Promote the Published Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles, While Employed by the Agency.
A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or Social Science. A Bachelor's Degree in any other field and one (1) year experience in a related field. Possess critical thinking skills to productively assess and work with a wide variety of people, to manage conflict and to advocate for children’s needs. Working knowledge of child development, family dynamics, statutes and policies related to child welfare. Ability to collaborate with individuals, families and service agencies in the provision of services. Skills in assessment, strong written and oral communication, interpersonal relationships, collaboration, treatment planning.
