Nature of Work

This position is responsible for performing a variety of field service and project activities related to Parking, Revenue, Access Control, Security, and other systems and associated software. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, and hands-on participation in installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and training of electronic and electromechanical devices, computer hardware, networking equipment, CCTV systems, and associated software. As a front-line ambassador for TAPCO interfacing with customers and the general public, you are relied upon to ensure a positive customer experience while executing project and service deliverables right the first time, every time. This position will primarily operate in the field at customer locations, company headquarters and TAPCO’s regional office(s), requiring regular travel between locations as needed. This position also requires some travel throughout the United States to receive training on existing and new products. This position reports to the Parking Service Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties listed below may vary in terms of priorities and other duties may be added or eliminated as this position develops.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs installation, maintenance and repairs to a wide variety of electronic, electromechanical, security, computer systems, communication, network and other systems, equipment & cabling.
  • Monitors, accurately records time and follows-up on all assigned service cases until resolved and closed; communicating effectively with multiple groups to remedy issues quickly and meet deadlines.
  • Execute assigned project tasks per plan and schedule.
  • Diagnose electronic failures to the board level; interprets electrical codes and regulations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to help improve speed of service, efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction, safety and quality.
  • Safely operates related tools and equipment; troubleshoots and repairs tools and equipment.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, and customers.
  • Installs new equipment and software onto various devices such as PCs, servers and proprietary hardware. Implements and manages software updates and firmware changes.
  • Manages and accounts for all cash, coins and tickets handled in the course of work inside cash handling machines. Follow and maintain PCI compliance within credit card processing systems.
  • Performs other essential duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Follows all traffic safety rules while performing duties.
  • Follows all company safety rules and 5S procedures.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Excellent technical ability and industry experience to provide efficient diagnosis and solutions to a wide variety of technical challenges while delivering a great customer experience.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills; positive, pleasant, respectful and customer focused always.
  • Solve problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Good working knowledge of electronic, electromechanical and electrical power principles to include testing and troubleshooting of components in DC and AC circuits.
  • Computer knowledge/skills: PC literate (past and current Windows desktop and server OS, Microsoft Office Suite, uploading and downloading files, software installation, administrative, e-mail & time management applications).
  • Must be proficient in using a computer to configure equipment, including control boards, routers, switches, CCTV cameras, VoIP devices and other components of an IP network.
  • Work outside regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs and respond to customers after-hours emergency calls as required.
  • Ability to work in a high stress/high visibility environment with minimal supervision.
  • Must be precise and thorough in all aspects of work; errors could result in unsafe conditions and potential financial losses for both the customer and company.
  • Ability to train on and quickly develop a technical working knowledge of our systems and software to effectively and intelligently communicate with customers, vendors and employees at all levels.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret business communications, technical documents, vendor instructions, basic schematics, CAD drawings, safety rules, procedure manuals and spreadsheets.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be able to drive to customer sites and travel outside of their assigned area as project needs dictate.
  • Requires multi-day overnight travel for servicing customer needs and training.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to speak effectively and clearly before individuals and groups of customers, suppliers and employees throughout organization.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, percent, and volume.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs.
  • Follows all company safety rules and 5S procedures.

Required Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Networking, some other related field or commensurate on-the-job experience.
  • 3+ years industry experience in field service and troubleshooting.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work out in the field usually with a vehicle on the roadside or in parking facilities and in varying outdoor weather conditions. Safe driving is mandatory. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is required to walk; stoop, kneel, and crouch; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; and to reach with hands and arms. The employee will have to climb up and down a ladder with little to no assistance. The employee will have to use a bucket truck or lift occasionally. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical machinery and material handling operations and is exposed to all weather conditions including fumes or airborne particles, and risk of electric shock. The use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, protective gloves, hard hats, safety clothing, vests and hearing protection may be required depending on duties that are performed. The use of steel toed and electrically safe shoes is required in the warehouse and out in the field. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be heavy at times depending on field location. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 – 5:00; however, at times the workload may not require full time or may require overtime Monday through Sunday as travel locations require. Employee is expected to participate in an on-call rotation as outlined by Supervisor. Some flexibility of scheduling will be necessary in order to accommodate customer needs.
