State Of New Mexico Jobs 2021 - State Of New Mexico is seeking a new official to fill Environmental Scientist and Specialist - Advanced that will be placed in Los Alamos.
Due to the available budget allocated for this position, the hiring rate will not exceed $27.72 per hour.
Purpose of PositionTHIS POSTING WILL BE USED FOR ON-GOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FILLED.
Why does the job exist?This position identifies, implements, and manages environmental surveillance and monitoring projects for the Department of Energy Oversight Bureau (DOE-OB) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The DOE-OB performs non-regulatory activities that provides scientifically valid results of environmental surveillance and monitoring activities at DOE facilities in New Mexico. This position writes sampling and analysis plans, work plans, and standard operating procedures and performs data verification and validation, and other quality assurance functions related to environmental monitoring. This position focuses on stormwater and related monitoring activities.
How does it get done?The incumbent in this position designs and implements multi-media environmental monitoring work plan(s) approved under the federal grant and statement of work between the U.S. DOE and the and conducts environmental sampling and data analysis activities.
Who are the customers?The Bureau provides technical analysis of data, reports, and other documents to inform the public about DOE activities in New Mexico and to assure the public that those activities are protective of public health and the environment.
Ideal CandidatePlanning and conducting multi-media (including water, biota, vegetation and sediment/soils) environmental sampling and data analysis; Creating and implementing quality assurance project plans and related environmental sampling planning documents; Facilitating public awareness and understanding of environmental issues by presenting complex technical data and information.
Minimum QualificationBachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and five (5) years of experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Education Experience Education ExperienceThe incumbent must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver¿s License. Must be able to qualify for and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) facility-specific badge, including passing random drug testing.
Working ConditionsThis position is split between office, laboratory, and field work. Approximately 70% of the work will be conducted in an office or laboratory setting, and 25% will be outdoors at field locations. Work is normally conducted Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. However, work outside these hours may be required to participate in public meetings or conduct sampling. Work includes the use of personal computers, the use of field sampling equipment, lifting to 75 pounds, field work in varying weather conditions, and field activities in icy, muddy and uneven footing. Hazardous and radiological training and certification may be required.
