The Outreach and Intake Coordinator works with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to coordinate initiatives designed to promote the Commission and its services to the community. This position is responsible for implementing and designing outreach, branding, marketing, and education plans for the Commission under the direction of the Executive and Deputy Directors. This role also coordinates the intake of complaints and requests with other Commission staff and performs limited administrative and investigative analysis related to the Commission’s powers and duties. Tasks may include but are not limited to event planning, graphic design, educational presentations, intake analysis and documentation, meetings with potential complainants, and meetings with City departments and external organizations.

Department: Commission on Human Relations Salary: $57,015 per year. Position Type: Announcement/Bid Union: This position is included in the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (“AFSCME”), Local 2719 bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Qualifying Requirements: Your application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status.

  • WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show one (1) year of full-time experience in investigations, program evaluation, community development, social work, sociology, psychology, and/or paralegal. (Full-time is defined as 32 hours or more per week. Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis.)
  • EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show an Associates Degree in post-secondary education from a fully accredited institution in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Public Administration, Communications, Administration of Justice, or a related field.
  • EQUIVALENCY: Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement of three (3) years for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above).

  • Conducts community-wide analysis of resources relevant to the populations most frequently served be the Commission.
  • Develops public education and information materials, presentations, and displays.
  • Serves as liaison to community organizations..
  • Facilitates fair housing, employment, public accommodations, and other civil rights trainings for a variety of target audiences.
  • Provides information, advice, and assistance on rights and obligations of individuals and organizations.
  • Creates, posts, and monitors social media content.
  • Participates in community programs in regard to Commission activities as assigned; may assist in conducting programs in regard to Commission activities as assigned; may assist in conducting internal training sessions for staff.
  • Prepares and presents outreach reports to the Commission as appropriate.
  • Establishes and maintains avenues for potential complainants to interact with the Commission.
  • Maintains awareness of the Commission's standing and status with Community organizations and City departments.
  • Plans or assists in planning community events intended to increase community awareness of the Commission and its functions.
  • Maintains data around Community events and happenings.
  • Assists other Commission staff with participation in outreach that engages their interests and communities.
  • Develops Commission and Community programs with the direction of supervisors, commissioners, and community stakeholders.
  • Accurately conducts and records intake interviews according to Commission policy and procedure.
  • Acts as liaison to new complainants.
  • Interprets and analyzes federal and state Civil Rights Laws and regulations in conjunction with the Pittsburgh City Code.
  • Enters intake information in federal case management systems.
  • Performs activities and functions of related personnel in a team environment.
  • Performs other related tasks/duties that are assigned or required.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as assigned.
