    Initial assignment will primarily involve carpentry shop services tasks and will involve performing other duties for the buildings and grounds shop services and building custodial services as required for the business needs of the District. Work shift hours will be approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday as required by the District to meet its service needs. The work shift hours on non-student contact days will be district shop hours on a Monday through Friday basis. These work shift hours may be adjusted.

    Reporting Relationship: report to the applicable assigned supervisor, Director of Buildings and Grounds or Director of Operations.
    Basic Function of the Position: Perform rough and finish carpentry work that includes fabrication and installation of casework systems, installation of door and door hardware systems, lock pinning and adjustments, installation of restroom partition systems, flooring, ceiling, and wall systems. Design and detail layouts for fabricated systems to meet project needs. Willing and able to follow safety guidelines and rules, willing and able to wear recommended personnel protective equipment (PPE).
    Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:
    • Make scheduled and emergency repairs to doors, cabinets, locks, closures, windows, floors, ceilings, walls, signage, etc.
    • Maintain a program for the preventive maintenance and replacement of all doors, locks, windows and closures to insure maximum life expectancy, timely capital replacement, and enhance energy efficiency.
    • Draw and develop plans and specifications for building improvement projects. Design, estimate costs for labor and material, purchase supplies and can construct a variety of cabinets, wall systems, work stations, etc. Remodel classrooms, offices and work areas to meet building occupant needs and to meet building codes.
    • Maintain a keying system and cut keys for several buildings.
    • Perform carpentry tasks to repair district furniture including chairs, desks, cabinets, bookcases, etc.
    • Perform carpentry work in the repair and construction of outdoor equipment and storage facilities such as benches, signs, bleachers, concession buildings and playground equipment.
    • Coordinate work schedules with other trades (ie. electrician, plumber, HVAC, carpet installers), when completing larger projects.
    • Maintain and keep clean and safe, a variety of woodworking equipment including table saw, radial arm saw, planer, panel saw, dust collector, etc.
    • Maintain an up to date inventory of needed supplies and equipment.
    • Repair and replace bathroom privacy stalls in all buildings.
    • Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned or apparent.

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum one (1) year of carpentry experience required.
    • MN Class B driver’s license within thirty days of start of employment in the position.
    • Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner.
    • Must have excellent work record.
    • Must have a history of working well with people and demonstrated good leadership skills.
    • Sufficient reading skills to read material data sheets, work orders and schematic blueprints.
    • Ability to read and comprehend building drawings, specifications, shop drawings and O&M manual instructions.
    • Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts in a logical and professional manner.
    • Ability to accurately perform detail oriented tasks with limited need for retraining or for supervision.
    • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and calculate fractions and sizes.
    • Must have good mechanical skills required to perform routine maintenance and repairs of door hardware, locks, tools and equipment.
    • Ability to assess existing conditions and perform repairs or replacement to address the needs.
    • Problem solving skills and analytical aptitude to logically investigate, problem solve, identify appropriate solution, implement appropriate action plan and document the process.
    • Ability to perform assigned carpentry shop services and to coordinate with district occupancy and needs.
    • Ability to efficiently, effectively and safely utilize shop and portable power tools that include drills, grinders, routers, sanders, saws and power fasteners.
    • Ability to accurately measure and fabricate components to fit required dimensions with acceptable tolerances.
    • Ability to accurately perform key cylinder pinnings and other intricate assembly work.
    • Must have a working knowledge of use of custodial supplies and equipment.
    • Ability to follow district policies and procedures.
    • Ability to be self-directed to perform and complete routine tasks.
    • Ability to regularly and routinely lift shop supplies weighing in excess of 40 pounds.
    • Ability to regularly and routinely push shop supplies and fabricated components weighing 40 pounds.
    • Ability to routinely lift and move fabrication components and supplies weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work alone on ladders of various lengths (up to 12 feet and self-propelled lifts up to 24 feet), with equipment and chemicals, which can be hazardous when not properly handled, and to access and perform work on elevated lifts and rooftops.
    • Computer proficiency skills that enable the candidate to read and enter information for use of Lenel Security, Web TMA and Unesco. Efficient with the use of Microsoft programs and Gmail.
