Detail of : Post doc concrete carbonation process design Job Opening in Los Angeles
Post-doc - concrete carbonation process design Subject: Seeking qualified candidate for post-doctoral research position in concrete carbonation process design
The Institute for Carbon Management (ICM) is seeking a postdoctoral candidate with a start date as soon as possible. Special emphasis is placed on recruiting candidates with a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline with expertise in carbon management technologies and a proven track record of world-class research and high-impact publications.
The successful candidate will develop a process design and model for a CO2 concrete curing process, with the intention of optimizing CO2 uptake and reducing utility energy requirements. The process utilizes CO2-dilute flue gas streams, from energy-production or other CO2-sources, to carbonate a novel concrete mixture design. Understanding and skill using ASPEN simulations (or equivalent process design and optimization software) to inform system design and process model modifications is key to develop the process across a range of operating conditions (e.g., T, RH, gas flow). In addition, heat-mass transfer reaction modeling based on system performance data and bench-scale data will be required to assist optimizing the process. From these simulations, the candidate will be able to develop a design basis memorandum for system engineering design.
For full consideration, the applicant is expected to possess the following qualifications: (a) a Ph.D. in a topic of relevance (see above) and an interest in pursuing a research career, (b) a thorough understanding of techniques used to translate the ability of lab-scale decarbonization techniques to an industrial scale, and (c) interest in working in a fast-paced, collaborative research environment. The applicant will collaborate with other researchers with expertise in different decarbonization techniques, such as mineralization.
Applicants with relevant experience will be given special preference. The successful candidate will be expected to take personal initiative to structure tasks to meet project functions and author novel publications. The candidate will also be expected to mentor students, teach courses in relation to expertise (if the opportunity arises), fulfill project administration functions, and assist in proposal development. The candidate is expected to meet programmed project goals, and to respond to deliverable timelines as are typical in “academia-industry” collaborative research.
If you meet the above requirements and are interested in this position, please provide the following documents (as PDFs) to the contacts noted below: (1) a detailed resume, (2) a short personal statement explaining your scientific and research interests, and (3) contact information for three referees in support of your application.
Please title your email subject line “Postdoc in process design” and copy both Prof. Dante Simonetti and Prof. Gaurav N. Sant on the email.
