This position’s main functions are to direct all maintenance department crew members in the performance of their job duties. He/She will take direction from the Director of Facility Operations and the Facility Operations Supervisor. The Maintenance Foreman will make job assignments according to each employee’s skills and abilities. A primary goal of the Maintenance Foreman is to maintain all company property, facilities and equipment in proper working order. The Foreman makes job assignments, reviews progress, assesses the employees’ performance, is part of any interviews, hiring, and disciplinary action and if necessary any employee termination. The Maintenance Foreman also does long term and short term planning for regular repair and preventative maintenance. The foreman will be responsible for preparing a weekly crew schedule and reviewing and submitting employee time records.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES could include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervision
  • Work Assignments

  • Recruiting and Discipline of Maintenance Dept. Staff
  • Facility and Equipment Project Management
  • Inventory Control and acquiring materials

The Maintenance Foreman will coordinate with department Supervisors on the oversite of the servicing and repair of the following:

  • Electrical Systems
  • Water System
  • Sanitary Sewer System
  • Industrial Waste System
  • Facilities and all Cold rooms
  • Offices
  • Ice Manufacturing and Ice Delivery systems
  • All Mechanical Aspects of the Precooling Equipment
  • Storm Drain Systems and SWPPP Diversion Valves
  • Oversees and directs logistics of moving equipment including overseeing all crane work and heavy machinery
  • Streets and parking lots

Quantity of Work

The Maintenance Foreman must oversee the above duties in a manner sufficient to meet facility or customer’s needs or to management’s direction 100% of the time. The Maintenance Foreman must meet minimum standards established and communicated by management. Standards will be reviewed and may be adjusted based on operational requirements.

  • Make all company time, productive time. The Maintenance Foreman must be aware of the progress and demands of many projects at a time.

Quality of Work

The Maintenance Foreman must maintain high standards regarding the work of his crew, his handling of their schedule and the needs of the company. He must maintain a clean and sanitary facility and assure adherence to proper care and attention to use of all equipment. Work must always be done with the safety of the employee and other employees, visitors and the community in general at the forefront of the employees mind. The Maintenance Foreman must adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures at all times.

Education and Training

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the company or a company of similar purpose.
  • Additional cross-functional experience in operations and mechanical maintenance.
  • Strong leader with high interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in an organization going through rapid growth or dramatic transformation. Proven track record of delivering superior business results in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Strong technical leadership background with demonstrated success in leading and developing technical capabilities within an organization.
  • Experience in an equipment manufacturing company.

The following qualifications are desired, but not required:

  • Experience leading Engineering strategies for multiple sites.
  • Experience working in a global business.
  • Advanced degree.

Language skills

  • Must have the ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence, and memos, and be able to effectively respond to and communicate with the crew members, customers, Administration Staff, the General Manager and Upper Management.

Mathematical Skills

  • Must have not only the basic knowledge of math (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) but also some upper level math –algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Must be able to accurately measure site plots and determine equipment placement and foot print.

Reasoning Ability

  • Must have the reasoning ability to apply not only common sense but also be able to study a situation with a critical mind to anticipate issues that might arise and take preventative measures, to insure project success. Must be able to communicate any necessary process changes to both upper level management and the employees performing the work.
