JOB TITLE: ASSESSING CLERK
JOB CLASSIFICATION: CLERK III
AFFILIATION: SEA FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SUMMARY: Responsible for a variety of duties associated with the administrative functions of the assessor’s office. Requires accuracy and attention to details with a considerable amount of public contact.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports directly to and is accountable to the Chief Assessor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares and processes documents necessary to affect the following actions: property transfers, liens, field cards, current use, exemptions, timber tax, excavation tax, including the calculation of the timber/excavation tax due, tax credits, new account activation, requalification, lot consolidation, inventory forms for utility and exempt properties, prepares and executes documents necessary to move mobile homes and abatement decisions.
Assists the public with questions and information regarding assessment matters.
Interfaces with other municipal departments and provides information to those departments as necessary.
Performs routine clerical duties as needed.
Updates sales book and business and street listings.
Schedules appointments for Chief Assessor and Deputy Assessor.
Assists in the maintenance of the residence list.
Responsible for recording welfare liens and liens for elderly and disabled tax deferral.
Receives and maintains all tax credits and exemptions on a yearly basis. Responsible for notification and processing of requalification applications.
Performs other duties as required including assisting other departments when needed.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
Graduate of high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Candidate should have strong computer skills using Microsoft Office and other computer applications for data input and retrieval relative to record updating. Must have the ability to learn Salem’s software.
Experience using Vision and Munismart software preferred.
Minimum two years’ experience in a clerical position which required considerable public contact.
Prior experience in an assessment or appraisal field desirable.

Must be a positive team player who consistently exhibits a professional and courteous manner.
